Richard joined Wasps in 1998, and made his first team debut in 1999. Since then, he's racked up over 200 appearances for the Club, with the milestone of 200 being reached in the 2008/09 season. During that campaign, he played 29 games ' a figure only beaten by Rob Webber.

He was an integral part of the Wasps team that won the Premiership finals in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He also played in the victorious Heineken Cup final in 2004.

In his childhood he also showed a keen interest in Basketball and, at 15, he was already playing at Crystal Palace in their U19 side in the National League. Yet Richard continued with rugby and when the time came to choose, when he was 17, he opted for the oval ball. Whilst at Millfield School, he began playing rugby every day and earned a place in the U18s England squad.
